Ian's digital native status dates back to 1979 when upgrades involved a soldering iron. Computer connectivity played a large part of his early career, taking him into some large Australian and international organisations - and a couple of coups in Russia.
He spent '95 in San Francisco following a hunch this new Internet thing might have legs. Returning to Australia, Ian was appointed the first Internet Team leader at TAFE NSW (now DET). Starting with a single 128Kb link, the next 3 years he oversaw access roll out to both 100K staff and 1M+ students at classroom level and took the best selling non fiction publication - the TAFE Handbook - online.
In 2000 Ian was appointed the CIO of Line56 - a new media company in Los Angeles, set up to ride the dot com boom - mostly down. In that time, he built a custom CMS, subscription CRM for 300K subscribers and learned all about salesforce automation, display and search media from their pre 1.0 versions.
Back in Australia, Ian took business development roles at MassMedia Studios (Traction eCRM platform), pure profile (Research panels and profiled media) and was in 2009 appointed Director of Social Media at Amnesia | Razorfish.
He currently teaches the ADMA Certificate in Digital Marketing and is an independent Social Media Advisor, working with clients such as Hon Michael Kirby AO, Sydney Festival, Starlight Foundation, Adam Brand, Emily Scott and National Disability Services.
In your opinion, what the world needs more than anything right now is... to chill out about growth being the primary measure of success.
